NLCPA Objectives

  • To work in accordance with the aims, objectives and the terms of affiliation as a special interest council with the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association.
  • To further the professional growth of counsellors and psychologists.
  • To act as a voice for counsellors and psychologists in Newfoundland and Labrador in matters relating to training, certification, promotion of high standards of professional competency, improvement of counselling and psychological services, to all stakeholders within the Newfoundland and Labrador public K-12 school system.
  • To support active and on-going liaison with business, industry, educational institutions, agencies and government departments.
  • To foster a close relationship amongst all student support agencies.
  • To promote a better understanding of the philosophy, objectives and services related to counselling and psychology.
  • To foster the development of these services in educational institutions in Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • To promote and encourage research in counselling and psychology.
  • To develop, reassess and make recommendations regarding standards of practice in counselling and psychology.
  • To promote and encourage professional development for counsellors and psychologists in Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • To make recommendations to the Newfoundland & Labrador Teachers’ Association Professional Development Committee and/or Provincial Executive of the Association.
